5th district supervisor candidates discuss priorities

Published Tuesday April 26

FELTON >> Incumbent county supervisor Bruce McPherson, 72, running for re-election, remarked his top priorities involve energy: Renewable energy, purchased through a tri-county partnership, which he expects to be available in 15-16 months, and reducing the number of wood stoves polluting the air with state funding.

Challenger Bill Smallman, 57, a civil engineer trying again for the supervisors seat, remarked his priorities are to create a regional water oversight district to maintain water supplies, which would provide recreation and open space and perhaps free up county money to improve roads.

“We need to move toward more advanced septic treatment,” Smallman said.
